Master’s seminar in Cultural anthropology and social sciences, Sorbonne University
Globalité, diversités, inégalités / Globality, Diversities, Inequalities (with M. Theinhardt), in the framework of the Master Programme CIMER: Intercultural Communication and Museology in a Renewed Europe, 1st semester 2023
Summary
The seminar examined the paradigm shifts that have taken place in the cultural sphere in recent decades, particularly with regard to Europe-World relations. Alongside theoretical considerations (the concept of Orientalism, colonialism without colonies), concrete responses to these global challenges were addressed in cultural practices in Central Europe and the Balkans the focus being on the interpretation and mediation of historical objects and works of art in museums and exhibition halls from today’s perspective. Students were encouraged to consider the historical context of the (art)works. The seminar included contributions from experts in the field, especially historiographers and exhibition curators, such as Markéta Křížová (Charles University/Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures), Svetlana Gorshenina (CNRS) and Emilia Epstajn (Belgrade Museum of African Art).
